Into the Woods

Luckily this is isn’t the first musical play I have watched so at least the way musicals go didn’t startle me like before. Things were a bit hard to follow during the first song though and I had to replay the scene for a second time. Once I was able to adjust myself to the play, everything else followed; and it was lovely. The play was actually very, very funny; probably because of the mockery they did on the fairytale characters. Also the lines and dialogue were so elevated that I laughed at the jokes with my pinky finger up, figuratively of course. The cast also had amazing voices, but I have to point out the one who played Jack and Bernadette Peters, who played the witch, as the standout ones. Peters actually stole the show to be honest. Some songs get stuck in your head than the others too, like “Agony” by the princes, I thought that really left an impression. There’s a part in me that actually enjoys the fact that I understand the dialogue and the humor of the play. It makes one feel really smart. I also didn’t notice at first that only the main characters of each fairytale remained by the play’s end until about the last few minutes of the play. Overall, I thought the play was quite the experience even just on screen – the laughs, mostly the laughs, the emotional moments, the intelligence behind the play that one just can’t ignore and of course the solid soundtrack.
